21 Apr '04 - + 73 - 46 Phrases I haven't heard in a while
You know what formerly common phrases I don't hear much anymore?
- Did you see Friends last night? It was hilarious!
- I don't have a cell phone.
- Belfour just doesn't have it anymore.
When Belfour was obviously on his way out of Dallas, there were two
camps of thought: those that thought he still had what it took to win,
and those that didn't. Fortunately, I was of the former group, because
I would
hate to be as wrong as the other group was.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't think there was any reason for him to stay
in Dallas - or for the Stars to keep him. He needed the change of
scenery. Goalies typically have bizarre psyches, and Eddie the Eagle is
far from an exception in that regard. He wasn't getting along with his
teammates, didn't feel appreciated by the fans, and even had he put up
a good season the next year he wouldn't have been excited about it. But
Toronto was happy to have him, and he was happy to go there. Two
seasons later, it's obvious it worked for both parties.
S
o far, Ed Belfour has been the most important player in the playoffs.
Without him between the pipes, Toronto would be sitting at home
watching Ottawa play in the second round. But they do have him, and he
single-handedly pushed the Leafs to victory through that series,
posting a 1.49 goals against average over seven games.
That's just Eddie doing what he loves best... proving people wrong.
